Why
Start with Your Local College?
If
you are interested in taking a course listed in the Virtual College
of Texas (VCT) online schedule, the first step is to contact
your local community college. That is where you will register, even
though the course itself is provided by another college.
It
is important to understand that VCT is not a separate educational entity
that offers courses and enrolls students. Only VCT member colleges do
that. "Virtual College of Texas" is the name given to the
collaboration that takes place among Texas two-year colleges for the
purpose of sharing distance learning courses with each other. By the
terms of the formal VCT collaborative agreement signed by Texas two-year
colleges, students may enroll at their local colleges to access courses
provided by other colleges that participate in VCT. Each college participates
in VCT as it chooses.

Enrolling in
Your Local College
To take a course
offered through VCT, you must be admitted to your local community college.
After you are admitted, you may then request that a space be reserved
for you in a VCT course. Once a space is reserved, you will formally
enroll in it, following your local college's registration procedures.
Check admission and registration procedures at your
local college's website, or contact the college by phone.
Courses Available to You
Just because a course is in a VCT course schedule does not mean
that your college will elect to enroll anyone in it. Your local community
colleges selects the courses offered through VCT that it wants to make
available to students in its service area. Or, it may decide not to
make any VCT courses locally accessible. Whether or not a college participates
in VCT--and the extent of participation--is totally up to each individual
college.
The
following colleges currently participate as Host colleges in VCT. That
means that they selectively offer courses that are available through
VCT. Each college decides for itself which courses in the VCT State
Course Schedule to make available to its students.
